Jane, think of it this way. Are there any emails that force you to drop what you're doing and open them? I can think of several in my email box that make me do that.

That's because they offer value consistently. If people love what you offer and are willing to give you their email address, you first must ADD VALUE, and then sell to them. In fact, the ratio of value vs. selling should be at least 10 to 1.

Love all these ideas. I have pondered the idea of capturing emails for some time now. My reluctance has been how I hate to give out my own email address regardless of the offer. My inbox is deluged with hundreds of emails and delete most without reading.

I have been trying to think of whats next? What is the unexpected? But since I don't know what to do...I think I will pursue the email route and offer one of your ideas.
Thanks for the information.

Cecilia, all of my ideas listed above are things you don't have to touch, wrap or mail, and visitors can access them immediately.

Your idea of getting rid of prints that are just sitting there, however, seemed to work well. There's something to be said for anticipation.

In 2009, we offered a free small print of individual historic airplanes to our new subscribers. These were "left-overs" from when we did airshow vending, but though they sold well at airshows, on-line they mostly just sat there. We limited availability to stock on-hand, so new cost was really only the stamp.
Good way to let people see the quality & detail of prints offered on the site and to spread the word. Plus, they had a choice, so there was happy-making involved, too!
Racking my brain for something new, now.
