For Terri.

One of the best ways to attract media attention is to involve the media. Why don’t you contact a radio and TV station and offer the presenter of the programme you are most interested in, the opportunity to have a personal reading on air. You can then ask the presenter to immediately asses the accuracy of what you’ve said. You can also offer to take calls from listeners and perhaps answer a few of their questions.

I had a look at Terri’s website and would like to make a suggestion. Terri’s face in the photo shows an attractive and warm person however the clothes send a contradictory message. The suit is severe and the colour of the suit cold. The soft yellow does not soften it. The intention was probably to create a business like image but to me it creates too hard an image.

Can I suggest that Terri use a different photo and wears something different and more colourful. It doesn’t have to be loud colour but it could be a little richer in colour, warmer and softer.

Terri’s work depends on establishing trust and although a suit can send a ’serious’ message I believe in this instance it is inappropriate.

Find out when the local SPCA is scheduling adoption days, at a mall, pet store, or wherever. Ask them if you can work in tandem with them. Suggest that they allow you to set up an area and do readings, for say $10 – and at the end of the day donate half to the SPCA.
If you know someone with graphic arts expertise, ask them to make you handouts (four to a 8×11 page is good). These need to be nice and tight, with crisp artwork and easy-to-read text AND NO TYPOS. You can then get those copied at any print shop on colored paper, cut them apart and distribute them to people who ask about you. Target local veterinarians and pet sitters.
In view of the nature of your talents, consider getting in touch with your local pagan community. Find out if you can set up a booth at their next spring or summer festival – this should not cost a lot. See if you can present a program showcasing what you do – and have lots of handouts available.

Ask TV media to “put you to the test” on air. Maybe you could help a local families locate their lost pet live. Also pitch a follow up show to see how accurate you were in locating pets. Prove your abilities to the public by solving a pet related problem on TV.

There’s a big news story spreading right now, it was on the Today Show this morning (5/1/09), about a chihaua being “found” by a pet psychic. Do some research (i.e., google it) on this story and find ways to piggy-back on the coverage of this hot news items.

Also, there are loads of pet magazines in which you could use the above story as a springboard to pitch a story about you and your work.

Another idea might be to pitch a timely story to pet magazines to the effect “How Your Pet Can Get You Out Of The Recession” and offer yourself as an interviewee/expert.

Here’s some suggestions…Look at or get a copy of Oprah’s Friday show 5/1/09. I was so surprised when she had the Pet Psychic [animal communicator] that found the missing puppy that blew away from her owners. Everyone on the panel agreed they’d use the services of an animal communicator if their pet went missing. Maybe use what they said as quotes on the site. Finding the dog has been all over the news, use it to your advantage. Use that publicity as an example, play off it locally and nationally.

Blog on a consistent basis…then you are considered an expert and there’s a better chance your information will be picked up by the media.

The story in the news about the dog Chihuahua and the Pet Psychic has been all over and it’s actually pretty interesting considering the attention it is getting.

Do something that will grab attention and surely the media and people’s attention will go right back at you.
