When your favorite reporter changes jobs

Publicity Hounds hate it when a favorite reporter switches beats at a particular newspaper or magazine, or leaves for another publication.

That means they have to start all over again getting to know the new reporter, then establishing the relationship.

Richard Laermer’s Bad Pitch Blog offers some helpful suggestions on how to stay in touch with the old reporter, and get to know the new one.

I commented and suggested that Publicity Hounds:

  • Create a Google Alert for the name of the new reporter so you don’t miss what they’ve written.
  • Check to see if the new reporter blogs. Many reporters do, either as part of their job or on the side. Posting comments at their blog is one of the very best ways to get in front of them.
