Hi Joan,
So far, I've considered those best seller campaigns as different from the bonus give-aways. No argument with the best seller comments.

With the bonus campaigns though, I see them as valuable when not done to the ridiculous. If someone has a $40 ebook and offers $1000 (I've seen it) in bonuses, it makes no sense. Also, if lists are hit every other day, that's abusive too.

However, if people want to help each other and they have complimentary products, why not?

To me it's no different than a toy in a cereal box or giving a referral to a customer in a brick/mortar store. If that didn't happen in the off-line world, networking would be virtually useless.

Basically, it comes down to if all marketing was done with common sense and etiquette in mind, a lot of these issues would go away.

BTW, Happy Birtday!

Joan,
I've participated in 2 or 3 of these and rarely did I get what I anticipated. One promotion yielded me about 25 new subscribers to my newsletters and maybe 5 subscribers to my Ponder Pearls quotation bonus. This was out of "millions" of emails sent.

Joan - thanks for spreading the word!

The upside - if there is one? - now my email readers only know about books I've read and they don't have to be hit with promos that don't bring value to either of us.

Promoting books I recommend on my blog is an even better bet - the post shows up in search engines and reaches readers who want to know more about the author or the topic.
